Finca Hotel Son Gener
Mallorca, Spain
An architectural gem nestled in a picture-perfect Mediterranean landscape, it skillfully blends old with new. Art and architecture, as well as the ecological concept with its own fruit and vegetable garden and regional ingredients , provide the perfect setting for a luxurious yet sustainable stay. If you 're looking for a Mallorcan hideaway, peace and individuality, a safe distance from mass tourism, then this is the place for you!
This is the hotel
The Son Gener is located in Son Servera , in the northeast of the island of Mallorca. The area is characterized by gently rolling Mediterranean countryside. Gnarled olive, almond, and fruit trees dominate the expansive landscape. In between lie charming fincas and small, pleasant villages . Although tourist resorts such as Cala Ratjada and Cala Millor are not far away, you won't notice any of this at Son Gener, which is quietly located just outside Son Servera, yet conveniently situated on the quiet road connecting Cala Millor to the main road to Manacor - Arta. When you arrive at the hotel, the first thing you notice is the extensive, extremely well-kept garden, which almost resembles a park. Magnificent Mediterranean vegetation is everywhere, blending seamlessly with the landscape; the view extends all the way to the sea, which is about 5 km away.
The main building, the old finca, dates back to the 18th century and has been lovingly converted into a small, charming country hotel . Upon entering the building, you are immediately impressed by the original structure, which has been so skillfully adapted and expanded architecturally to create a contemporary, unique hotel . The original features and essence of the building have been retained, however. Tasteful Spanish antiques, contemporary island art, and high-quality, appealing decor complete the country-house ambience of the hotel. The hotel consists of the main building, which houses 10 rooms , and an annex with an additional 5 rooms. This forms a modern yet harmonious counterpart to the finca building and was very tastefully planned and designed.
The hotel features a small but exquisite organic restaurant with cozy, elegant rooms and a stunningly landscaped terrace that extends generously into the garden . The dishes are prepared in Mallorcan-Mediterranean style , and the hotel's own organic garden provides the fresh organic produce—it couldn't be more sustainable! It's always a pleasure to stroll through the vegetable garden and admire the many varieties of vegetables.
Of course, the hotel has a wellness and spa area with every opportunity to forget everyday life and completely relax. Two pools invite you to swim and sunbathe. For colder days, there's an indoor pool; more on that below.
Here are a few impressions of the hotel:
Culinary
The hotel has a wonderful, small restaurant where all meals are served. Various rooms are ideal for romantic dinners, and there's also plenty of space for family celebrations. Breakfast is served buffet style , with hot dishes, such as various egg dishes, freshly prepared in the kitchen and served at your table. There's a video of the buffet in the photo gallery below—I don't think breakfast could be more inviting! Numerous homemade dishes , homemade pickles, a variety of homemade cakes, and select regional products, including special cheeses and hams, ensure a culinary start to the day. Fresh fruit from the garden, such as figs, oranges, persimmons, and much more, is also available.
The restaurant also offers a variety of delicious dishes for lunch , all prepared with fresh ingredients from the hotel's own garden. In the evening, there's a small daily menu featuring a selection of freshly prepared dishes from authentic Mallorcan cuisine, always offering a choice of meat, fish, or vegetarian options. The portions are more than generous, and chef Josefa is happy to accommodate special requests upon request. Dining on the terrace is a dream! Sitting under a thatched pergola or by the house under a canopy of bougainvillea? Add to that atmospheric lighting, soft music, and a gentle sea breeze... This is the perfect place to experience unforgettable holiday evenings!
The selection of Spanish and Mallorcan wines is also fantastic – a clear recommendation: simply try the local wines, it's definitely worth it!

About the rooms
The hotel has just 15 rooms spread across two buildings . There are 10 rooms in the traditional main building and a further 5 in the annex . All rooms are designed as junior suites and offer plenty of space with spacious bathrooms. Each suite is different and has its own charm, with all rooms decorated in light colors and natural materials. Contemporary art on the walls and as decoration, as well as skillfully placed antiques and "old masters," are complemented by understated design objects. Thus, the suites never feel oppressive or cramped, but rather airy Mediterranean with just the right touch of Spanish elegance and solidity . All rooms have a terrace , some even have an (additional) roof terrace and/or a private garden , as well as the amenities expected in this class. Since each room is different, you can select and book it directly .
Here are some insights:
Highlights
The old finca with its stunning garden and architecturally stunning outbuilding is a highlight in itself, but the expansive fruit and vegetable garden is equally outstanding. There are also three saltwater pools , one of which is indoors. The spa area includes an indoor pool, a whirlpool, a sauna, and a hammam . A light-filled yoga room and a massage room offer opportunities for relaxation. Treatments can also be booked.
In addition to the spacious restaurant terrace, the garden also features a spacious chill-out area with comfortable lounge furniture. It's the ideal spot for an aperitif, a relaxed conversation, or quietly reading a book.
Parking is free; there are, of course, charging stations for electric vehicles. Bikes can be rented for an additional fee.
Why go there?
If you appreciate a finca holiday in a small country hotel , are looking for an upscale and stylish ambiance , and value privacy , then Son Gener is the right choice. Individual travelers, couples, honeymooners, as well as golfers and cyclists, will all be thrilled. Given its architecture , the numerous works of art , and the interior design, I would definitely call the hotel an art hotel , which will certainly be a delight for art lovers.
What's gorgeous
"Gorgeous" is definitely the architecturally appealing design of the hotel, with its expansive gardens and ancient olive and almond trees. It's easy to relax, enrich your senses, and enjoy beauty, harmony, and a great deal of privacy . Lightness and serenity dominate the day . What always fascinates me is a stroll through the lovingly tended fruit and vegetable gardens, where the ingredients are grown that are later lovingly prepared in the restaurant kitchen.
Around the hotel
Son Gener is strategically located near the beaches of the northeast coast and charming towns like Arta, Capdepera, and Son Servera . The surrounding area is characterized by finca tourism , and you can admire countless tasteful properties on the hills surrounding the hotel. A car is definitely recommended. The nearby tourist resorts of Cala Millor and Cala Bona are more characterized by package and mass tourism, but you won't notice any of this at Son Gener.
Near the hotel there are remains of an ancient Talayotic settlement.
Four golf courses can be reached within 7 to 15 minutes .
If you don't want to eat in the hotel, there are plenty of great culinary options for every taste and budget within a few minutes' drive.
My tips
My recommendation for a relaxing beach holiday is definitely Cala Agulla near Cala Rajada . However, it's very busy during peak season. Cala Torta in the north, beyond Arta , is relatively secluded and unspoiled. However, access to the bay has become increasingly difficult over the years, so unfortunately, I don't visit this beach as often anymore.
Restaurant recommendations:
Es Pati in Sant Llorenç des Cardassar . Always a firework of flavors, perfect service, and passionately run by Germans.
P eperoncino in Son Servera . In my opinion, one of the best Italian restaurants on the island, passionately run by Giuseppe Carbonaro. Great Italian dishes, and the mozzarella bar is a cool idea!
There are some wonderfully charming restaurants in Arta , so just give them a try. In any case, check their closing times and make reservations in advance!
