Calatrava Mediterranean Seahouse

Mallorca, Spain

An exceptional city hotel in the heart of Palma de Mallorca, its fascinating concept and exquisite location make it a truly unique hideaway . The old townhouse on Palma's seafront has been painstakingly converted into a design gem.

The name "Mediterranean Seahouse" is no coincidence, as the city beach is within walking distance, and some rooms even offer direct sea views. On the rooftop terrace, where the restaurant and lounge are located, you can gaze for hours at both the sea and the rooftops of Palma.

This is the hotel

The Hotel Calatrava is located in Palma de Mallorca, in the La Calatrava district of the same name. The La Seu Cathedral and the Royal Palace of La Almudaina are a 5-minute walk away . Countless palaces, town houses, and churches dating from the 12th to the 19th century characterize the cityscape. Medieval streets invite you to stroll, and views into the palace courtyards are a sight to behold. The district is more tranquil than many other parts of the city, but there are many charming bars, restaurants, and cafés . Several special boutique hotels have sprung up in Calatrava in recent years, including the Calatrava Mediterranean Beachhouse .

The townhouse on Plaza Llorenç enjoys a prime location , right in the city center and within walking distance of the sea , offering direct sea views of the Bay of Palma. It has been painstakingly converted into a small boutique hotel.

The interior is decorated in a warm terracotta tone , complemented by beige, gray, and brown accents. The walls are decorated with black-and-white photographs created especially for the hotel by Mallorcan photographers Jose Taltavull and Xim Izquierdo , which are intended to offer a unique perspective on the island of Mallorca that is never possible from a tourist perspective.

Cleverly placed designer furniture of international renown, for example from Huguet for bathroom furnishings, furniture from Carl Hansen, Vincent Van Duysen, Living Divani, as well as lamps from Lumine, Santa Cole and Oluce create exciting accents.

The hotel belongs to the IT MALLORCA Unique Spaces group and is an adults-only hotel (14+).

Culinary

The hotel has a wonderful little rooftop restaurant where all meals are served. The almost 360-degree view from the rooftop terrace is breathtakingly beautiful. There's plenty of shade, and those who like can sunbathe on the comfortable lounge furniture with a cocktail and dreamily watch the cruise ships pass by.

For breakfast, there's a delicious Mediterranean buffet where you'll find everything your heart desires. Egg dishes are, of course, freshly prepared. My breakfast tip is the Eggs Benedict – lovingly prepared and a real treat! The service is exceptionally friendly and attentive. That's not something you can take for granted these days, so I'd describe the service here as "gorgeous," which also applies to the entire hotel team !

The restaurant offers light Mediterranean cuisine . The menu is small, but the selection ranges from tapas, cheese, and salads to sandwiches and pasta, as well as a few small fish and meat dishes. Vegetarian options are also available. Great emphasis is placed on regionality in the selection of ingredients. Opening hours from 12:30 to 22:30, also for external visitors.

About the rooms

The Deluxe and Premium Rooms , as well as the Junior Suites and Suites , are all designed in a loft style. They offer plenty of space, ample closet space, and spacious beds. The high ceilings of the old townhouse convey a sense of spaciousness and airiness; the terracotta color of the walls and ceilings creates a cozy atmosphere. Depending on the category, they offer views of Palma's old town , partial sea views , or even direct views of the Bay of Palma.

All feature the modern design and the aforementioned classic furnishings, air conditioning and heating, Marshall Bluetooth speakers, a minibar, and much more. The bathrooms are spacious and offer the usual amenities expected in this hotel category.

High-quality mattresses and bed linens contribute to a restful sleep. Hypoallergenic bedding is available upon request.

Highlights and what's gorgeous

" Gorgeous " is certainly the outstanding design of this gem. Even after extended stays, you won't get tired of it.

Another highlight is the aforementioned service ! Genuine friendliness from a young team dedicated to ensuring guests have a wonderful stay.

The location is unbeatable ! The city's hotspots are just a few minutes away. If you want, you can walk to the sea or to Portixol, or chill out at one of the famous beach clubs on the city beach.

Enjoying a few drinks on the roof terrace at sunset and taking in the view over the Bay of Palma – simply priceless!

On bad days, simply enjoy the small spa area ! A sauna, a whirlpool, and thermal loungers offer relaxation options. Massages and beauty treatments can be booked, and private yoga and Pilates classes are also offered.

This hotel belongs to the small but exquisite hotel group " It Mallorca - Unique Spaces ." The Calatrava has received numerous awards, including Conde Nast Traveler, Trivago, and TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice - Best of the Best 2023 and 2024.

Why go there?

If you're looking for a small yet stylish city hotel in a prime location in Palma, this is the place for you. Design lovers will find their money's worth. It's an ideal place for a city break for couples, individualists, and travelers who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere.

Around the hotel

As already described at the beginning, the Hotel Calatrava is located in Palma de Mallorca, in the La Calatrava district of the same name. The Cathedral of La Seu and the Royal Palace of La Almudaina are a 5-minute walk away. Countless palaces, townhouses, and churches from the 12th to 19th centuries characterize the cityscape. Medieval alleys invite you to stroll, and views into the palace courtyards are a sight to behold. The district is more tranquil than many other parts of the city, but it still boasts many charming bars, restaurants, and cafés.

The Calatrava is just a few minutes from the airport and is located in a traffic-calmed zone in the Calatrava district of the same name. Taxis are no problem, but those arriving by rental car must register their license plate with the hotel, as the hotel is located in a traffic-calmed zone . The hotel offers a few parking spaces in a nearby underground garage, but this is only suitable for small cars (approximately a Polo class CDMR). A tip: There is a large parking garage nearby under the Parc de la Mar, where parking is not as expensive and even larger vehicles can be parked.

My tips

Palma de Mallorca offers a variety of options for guests of the Hotel Calatrava. Culinary options include local specialties such as tapas and fresh seafood in first-class restaurants, while the famous Mercat de l'Olivar offers fresh ingredients and an authentic market feel. For a relaxed evening, the stylish bars in the old town invite you to have a drink, where you can sample creative cocktails and local wines. My recommendation: La Rosa Vermuteria & Colmado. Delicious tapas, great service, and especially the large selection of vermouth ensure a successful evening! Palma is also a popular location for conferences and events, with modern facilities. The Palma Convention Center is even within walking distance of the hotel. The same goes for the nearby beaches , which offer an ideal setting for sun, sand, and water sports.
