Trulli Anti - Essenza

Alberobello, Puglia, Italy

This is the house

Alberobello is an essential part of any tour of Puglia. The special feature of this southern Italian town is its trulli. These small houses are among the most unusual and emotionally captivating buildings in Europe. Visiting the historic center of Alberobello feels like stepping into another world: whitewashed, round houses with conical stone roofs stand shoulder to shoulder along charming alleyways. As I strolled through Alberobello, I wasn't just amazed by the architecture, but also experienced a very special feeling – a blend of fascination, comfort, and Mediterranean serenity.

The Trullo Essenza from the Trulli Anti collection is the perfect place to experience this feeling and immerse yourself for a few days in the almost fairytale-like atmosphere of historic Alberobello. Built in 1800, the Trullo Essenza has been meticulously restored by its owner and transformed into a cozy retreat where nothing is lacking.

Thanks to the thick stone walls and the conical roof, the temperatures remain pleasantly cool in summer and comfortably warm in winter. A very natural and earthy atmosphere!

I particularly appreciated the trullo's excellent location. Centrally located, yet slightly off the beaten tourist track, it's an ideal base for exploring the city. It's also easily accessible by car, which is certainly an important factor for those planning a road trip.

Trullo Essenza offers a great deal of privacy, as it's enclosed by a high stone wall. You enter the property through a beautifully designed gate and find yourself in a charming courtyard, lush with Mediterranean greenery and tastefully decorated. Here you can also conveniently store your bicycles, which are available for your use at the trullo.

Incidentally, the trullo also boasts a spacious terrace with a dining table, a covered lounge area with comfortable sofas, and sun loungers

Living

The Essenza offers over 80 square meters of living space, distributed across a large and very comfortable living room, a small single bedroom, and a double bedroom under the dome on a gallery.

The tasteful interior design and decoration of the trullo were lovingly created by the owner, Angelo, himself, giving it a particularly personal character.

Angelo personally attends to his guests! We were expertly escorted to the trullo, greeted by him, and surprised with lovely, high-quality regional gifts, such as olive oil, typical pastries, and wine.

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay, and dishes and cooking utensils are, of course, provided.

The bathroom is spacious with a beautiful vanity, toilet, and a roomy shower including a rain shower head. It's also lovely that there's a window leading to the private terrace! Naturally, fluffy towels and bathrobes are provided, as well as high-quality toiletries.

Breakfast can be delivered daily. You choose what you want from a list, and it's then delivered on time by a caterer.

Sleeping

The trullo has an air-conditioned sleeping area on a gallery under the trullo's dome, which is reached via a small open staircase. The beds are very high-quality and made up with the finest linens. You sleep very well because the solid construction makes the trullo feel very cozy and secure. Romantic moonlight streams in through a small window above the bed. What more could you want?

Highlights and what's gorgeous

Of course, the trullo itself is the highlight! A must-see!

We were also extremely impressed with the furnishings, especially the large private terrace with all sorts of amenities.

But of course, the location and Angelo's personal service are outstanding.

Why go there?

Trulli Essenza is a little off the beaten track from the other trulli, which is a plus because you can enjoy peace and quiet away from the tourist crowds, which can sometimes be quite bothersome.

The trullo is ideal for couples and small families looking for something special.

Around the House

Alberobello is located in the heart of the Valle d’Itria, a region characterized by its rural landscape, small historic towns, and easily accessible Adriatic coastline. The following highlights are definitely worth exploring from Alberobello:

Locorotondo (approx. 9 km): with its compact old town center, whitewashed houses, and quiet streets. Also known for its local white wines!

Martina Franca (approx. 15 km): with its Baroque architecture and beautiful town center!

Ostuni (approx. 35 km): A historic old town perched on a hill; you'll feel like you're in Greece! White alleyways and fantastic restaurants! The city was one of my highlights!

Monopoly (approx. 22 km): A coastal town with a harbor, old town, and several small city beaches.

Polignano a Mare (approx. 28 km): Situated on a clifftop coast with viewpoints and a photogenic town beach, surrounded by rocks and lined with closely packed houses.

Valle d’Itria: A rural region with olive groves, dry stone walls, and scattered trulli. Ideal for walks and bike rides, even directly from your trullo, as bicycles are included.

My tips

Explore the town early in the morning or in the evening. That's when Alberobello reveals its full charm.

Have Angelo reserve a parking space for you and then simply leave your car there! It's much easier to get around by bike or on foot.

Be sure to make reservations at restaurants; getting a table spontaneously will be very difficult! Angelo, of course, has a long list of great recommendations!

Alberobello is a must-see on any tour of Puglia. I would recommend a 2-3 night stay to properly explore the town.

If you don't want to go to the restaurant every day...Simply have a selection of delicious cheeses, hams, and antipasti put together for you at a local grocery store and then enjoy them in the comfort of your trullo at home!
